How does Botox® remove wrinkles?
Botox® uses a natural, purified protein that is administered at very low doses to reduce the contractions of winkle-causing muscles.
BOTOX ® Cosmetic Uses:
• Wrinkles of the Face
• Crow’s Feet
• Frown and Worry Lines
• Drooping Brow – Brow Lift
• Bunny Lines of the Nose
• Excessive Sweating
Newer uses include relaxing the downward pull on the corners of the mouth, softening the pebble-like chin contractions which some of us unconsciously seem to adopt. In some cases, can even be used to relax the lines under the eyes. A chemical brow lift or brow balance can be achieved with a few strategic injections.
BOTOX® Cosmetic may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of these problems any time (hours to weeks) after injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic: Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles, which can be severe and result in loss of life. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre-existing before injection. Swallowing problems may last for several months.
Spread of toxin effects: The effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas away from the injection site and cause serious symptoms including: loss of strength and all-over muscle weakness, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice (dysphonia), trouble saying words clearly (dysarthria), loss of bladder control.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is contraindicated in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any botulinum toxin preparation or to any of the components in the formulation.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
The most frequently reported adverse event following injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic for glabellar lines was eyelid ptosis (3%).
The most frequently reported adverse event following injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic for lateral canthal lines was eyelid edema (1%).
